The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has warned of a worsening food crisis in Sudan, as the country faces conflict and economic decline. According to FAO, 42% of the population suffers from high levels of acute food insecurity, due to market disruptions and soaring food prices that limit access to essential goods and services. FAO stated that 20.3 million people in Sudan are severely hungry, almost double the number from last year. The most affected regions include Khartoum, South and West Kordofan, and Central, East, South and West Darfur.
