Ghanaian Fetish Priests Die After Akpeteshi
Two fetish priests have died from drinking a mixture of akpeteshie and of herbs in Senease in the Brong Ahafo region.
The Public Relations Officer, (PRO) Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong has said the two have been identified as Nana Kwaku Prince, alias Rasta, aged 44 and Nana Kwame Ofori, 40 years, all of the Berekum Municipality.
Sources gathered has indicated that four other victims are on admission at the Berekum Holy Family Catholic Hospital, they are said to be indigenes of Techiman.
Inspector Oppong has said that the four have been working with Nana Ofori and Nana Prince at the same shrine.
Speakng to the press, He further said that Nana Kwadwo Obeng, who is the fetish priest of Tansie shrine at Senease and also known as the leader of the Fetish Priests Association in the Berekum Municipality had invited Nana Prince of Wednesday February 7 to take part in a six day workshop scheduled for the members of the Association at Senease.
He went ahead to state that Nana Prince sought permission at around 8:30 a.m alongside his entourage to move to Techiman, and for the custom to stand, Nana Obeng had ordered some of his subjects to serve them with the local gin- herbal mixture which is known popularly as ‘bitters’ before their departure.
After the consumption of the local gin-herbal mixture, the visitors of Nana Obeng instantly complained of stomach upset and began vomiting before they were rushed to the Holy Family Catholic Hospital.
On arrival, Nana Prince and Nana Ofori were announced to have been dead.
He said the four – Kofi Isaac, 44 years; Febri Kwame, 35 years; Baffoe Mandela, 26 years and Benjamine Jesse, 76 years, are responding to treatment whilst the bodies of the two deceased have been deposited at the Hospital’s morgue.
Chief Inspector Oppong said Kwaku Asamoah, alias KK, Nana Obeng alias Okomfo Emmanuel, aged 65 and Kwaku Abebrese, suspects in the case are in Police in custody and assisting in Police investigation.
